APF – Mill Hill Missions – St. Joseph’s Missionary Society

We are an international fellowship of Catholic missionaries dedicated to announcing the Good News of Jesus Christ to people throughout the world. The mission and work of the Mill Hill Missionaries find expressions in various forms and ways. The last Chapter in 2005 redefined mission as the heart of the Society and challenged all members to live out the priorities of the Society in their respective ministries, responding appropriately to the challenges of secularisation and globalisation in the local churches where they serve.

Bereavement

We are aware that bereavement is a very personal time. We are not here to intrude on your privacy, but if there are times when help is needed we provide: A rosary prayed with the family, an evening before the funeral. Home visits. A monthly drop-in. We listen if you wish to talk and share memories of your loved one who has died. The team is here to help all our parishioners and others who may need support in any bereavement by any loss, miscarriage, stillbirth or suicide. We are not councillors, just a group of parishioners who have received training for this ministry. We have also experienced the grief of the death of a loved one. You may prefer to have a one-to-one meeting with one of our care team.

Our monthly drop-in, is an open invitation for anyone, to come along for a cup of tea and company. Bereavement Groups are held in both St. Teresa’s and St. Oswald’s.

Catenians

The Catenians are an association of Catholic laymen who are committed to their faith, their families, to those in need and to each other. Our primary purpose is to establish a network of friends, which enhances their family life, strengthens their faith and sustains them in difficult times. We support each other, the Catholic Church, young people and those in need. Our friendships are developed through meeting together locally once a month and enjoying a varied programme of social events together with our families and the widows of members

Welcomers and Collectors

We consider that it is important that everyone is personally welcomed as they come into our churches. Each Sunday at Mass there are people to greet you and hand out Mass books and newsletters.

At each Mass we make a gift to God for the work of His church in the local area. Collectors help this to happen at each of the Masses.

We are always looking for new people to take up these roles so get in touch if this is something you can get involved in.

Children’s Liturgy Catechists

At Mass at 5:00 pm in St. Oswald’s, 9:30 am in St. Teresa’s and 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalen’s; children can take part in their own Liturgy of the Word. This helps children understand the readings at their own level. The catechists prepare suitable materials each week that help children to actively engage in God’s Word.

You can join this team by speaking to one of the catechists.
